Outdoor Survival 101: The Essential Things You Need

If you are someone who loves the outdoors and wants to spend significant time camping and mountain trekking in remote and isolated places, then you probably are aware how important it is to always bring the necessary survival gear in order to survive. So before you go out there, you must know what your survival kit must contain.

1 – Knife

When you’re camping and you don’t bring with you a knife as part of your outdoor survival gear, then you’re like lacking one hand. A knife isn’t just for kitchen use; it in fact is an essential part of any survival gear. The foremost reason why you shouldn’t be going out there without it is because it does things that no other outdoor survival gear can. The list of functions that a knife does includes cutting practically everything like rope, cloth, and bandages, opening cans and packages, creating wood tools, and cutting food.

2 – Rope

There’s no denying that rope is an essential part of any type of DIY survival gear. The fact is it almost is impossible to survive out there in a remote place or in the wild if you don’t have a rope with you or if you don’t know how to make one. The rope plays a very important role in a survival situation as it is used for so many different purposes, including that of building emergency shelters, fixing things, lashing poles, making animal traps, fishing, climbing, and making splints for injuries.

3 – Hydration System

This one right here needs no explanation. Anyway, a normal person can survive days even without food, so long as there is water. That’s why if you plan on surviving out there, you must endure bringing with you a water bottle or any other container that can store water for drinking. Know that not all water found outdoors is ideal for drinking.

4 – Signaling Device

Once you find yourself in a survival situation after camping and there seems to be no one else around, it means that one of your primary objectives is to look for ways to contact people. The thing is if you let several days pass without doing something to make contact, your chances of being rescued will be decreased significantly. So as to be sure you have some aid in terms of establishing contact when you’re in a survival situation, always bring with you a signaling equipment. A flashlight, mirror, whistle, or any other device that can produce either light or sound will be of great value. You just can forget bringing along a signaling equipment since it’s an essential tactical survival gear.

In the end, one article wouldn’t be enough to list all the other essential things you should be bringing if you really want to survive out there, regardless of how challenging and dire the survival scenario is.
