Dog Care: Keeping your Dog Healthy and Happy

If you own a dog, you would surely love him and give him the best care he could have. As a dog owner, you regularly walk your dog and feed him, bathe him and groom him. However, some things are easier forgotten than others. Forgetting these things may cause serious health concerns and can be bad for your dog. I have listed a few important ones.

One of the things dog owners tend to forget is dental care. It is common for dogs to suffer some form of dental diseases at a very young age. Your dog’s oral health requires more than just healthy puppy treats and the customary looking for gum diseases. If your dog has other dental problems, like broken teeth or tooth decay, a dental check-up can much more readily find it. It is important to remember that your dog’s dental care should start while he is still a puppy. Don’t postpone gum and dental care because he will become susceptible to diseases.

Brushing his teeth with a soft-bristled toothbrush protects his teeth and gums from decaying. You can do this by starting with his front teeth and gradually moving into the mouth and brushing over his gums.

It might sound unusual but many dog owners have overlooked fleas, because this health issue can be easily prevented. Fleas can cause skin allergies even from a small infestation. It is important to know what attracts fleas in order to keep them away. Fleas generally love warm and humid environments and hate cold and dry surrounds. Sometimes warm and humid weather is unavoidable, depending on where you live or what season it is, but there are flea creams and chewy tablets you can buy to prevent fleas from infesting your dog.

There are also natural treatments you can use on normal days. Homemade concoctions and essential oils are also helpful to use as they don’t contain chemicals that can affect your dogs coat.

Unlike cats, dogs are not choosy when it comes to food and will eat almost anything you give them. Your dog’s health has probably suffered harm because of the poor quality food that you give him.

Some concern has also been raised with some popular brands on how they process their dog food and what ingredients they put in them. Sometimes it can pass as legal in some countries for poor quality meat, from sick animals, to be put in dog food. But even good quality meat, when it passes through intense heat can lose a lot of nutrients before it is completely processed.

You should be aware of these things.
